He Shall Be Called...

"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." - Matthew 1:23

I love this passage of scripture because Israel, a people in waiting, will finally see their Savior. The angel doesn't just tell Mary that she will have a son named Jesus. No, he tells her that her baby will be called Immanuel...GOD WITH US!!

As a young mom, I am reminded of the naming process. Don't we all want a name that is strong? We want to give our children a name with meaning, and power, and identity!! That name becomes our child's legacy.

Well, our Immanuel didn't have just one name. NO...he is referred to in more than 100 different ways in the Bible. It really bothers me that the English language has deluded the names of Christ. To the Jews he wasn't just "Jesus." He was and is, so much more!!

Immanuel
Deliverer

Wonderful Counselor

King Of Israel

Prince of Peace

The Son Of God

Can you imagine one name meaning so much? The Old Testament has many beautiful names for God as well.

El Shaddai - Lord God Almighty

Adonai - Lord, Master

El Olam - The Everlasting God

Jehovah Jireh - Our provider

This last name is my favorite right now. I have found myself crying out to "Jehovah Jireh," so many times this past year. We serve a faithful God, and he became our Jehovah Jireh once again his holiday season.

A few weeks ago our church sent out a benevolence request for a single mother in need of a refrigerator. Our hearts stirred for this family immediately as we learned that the mother of a seven year old boy had been in a terrible accident this past spring. Her time in the hospital resulted in being laid off work. That combined with medical bills forced the woman and her son into an unfavorable situation.

Of course an accident this past spring has also put my loved ones in a difficult situation this holiday season, so my heart was tendered toward this women. We also discovered that her son has Type One Diabetes which as effected Eric's family in a major way. God clearly placed this mother in our path and her son in our path.

We didn't have a full size refrigerator, but we did have one from college which we will be giving her. We also felt lead to make sure her son received Christmas presents. We asked to purchase a few toys for him and began to pray that Jehovah Jireh would provide us with the funds to do something special for this family we had never met.

Again we serve a mighty God because as I was cleaning out a closet I came across an old bag that needed to be thrown out. Upon further inspection we found $45 inside which we immediately put toward gifts for this little boy. That same night I won a $25 gift card at my work Christmas Party. I don't know if you're adding this up, but that is a total of $70 for this precious boy!!

Please don't think I am telling you this story to look say, "look what we did." In fact, I debated on posting this at all because I wanted to do this in secret so God would receive all the glory.

However, I know there are lots of you out there who need hope in miracles this Christmas. Like Israel, you are waiting. You're waiting for Jehovah Jirah to provide for you. You're waiting for the Prince Of Peace to to reign in your life. You're waiting for El Shaddai to pour his mighty power on you. You're waiting to feel Immanuel come along side you and surround you with his glory.

As you wait please know that this Redeemer that was born so many years ago can be your most perfect Christmas gift this season. Do you know him? Is so, what are you calling Him today?

A New Decade

Happy 2020, everyone!  I know I'm a month and a half behind, but ya'll, January was brutal!  Not brutal in a tragic kind of way but in a "life will wear you out" kind of way. It started off with the flu...times three!  Eric, Ellie and I had Flu B and missed the first week back to school and work.  Then Eli was diagnosed with Flu A two weeks later.  Thankfully, my in-laws stepped in to help so that we didn't have to miss any more time at work. On top of the sickness, we listed our house for sale. The work it takes getting ready for market is just crazy. But we also have people coming in and out of our home at all hours and it's just kinda overwhelming. Plus, we are finalizing everything with the builder. In full transparency, working with the builder has been the easiest part! Maybe I'll do a little update on the whole building process later this week.  Now that the dust has settled on 2020, I'm going to try my very hardest to keep this litt

Hit Me With Your Best Shot

Have I ever told you that Eli loves sports?  Ha!  I look back at him with baseballs and basketballs at 18 months old ,and it blows my mind that he's still so interested.   The thing is, he doesn't discriminate.  Baseball, basketball, football, soccer...you name it, we play it! Not only do we play sports all day, we also have to watch certain videos on Youtube.   We watch "Boys of Fall," while wearing a football helmet. We watch Alabama's "Cheap Seats,"  John Fogerty's"Centerfield," and Kenny Rogers,  "The Greatest" while holding a bat, carrying a ball, and wearing a batting helmet. And now, thanks to Space Jam, we have to listen to the movie sound track while shooting hoops!  That's a blast from the past! He hasn't found a song about soccer or golf...YET! And with all that playing, who has time to run inside for a potty break?  Not this boy! I never thought

Running Through The Sprinkler

Playing in the sprinkler was on our summer bucket list.  To me it seems weird just checking if off and moving on to the next activity because when I was younger, we ran through a sprinkler pretty much every day.  Putting it under the trampoline and letting it keep all the "jumpers" cool, was a favorite pastime. I cringe now. What the heck were we doing with eight kids on a net-free trampoline anyway? Ha! Back to the present…Eric treated the pool yesterday, so we couldn't swim which made it the perfect night to drag out the water hose and sprinkler.   Neither child loved it at first, so we turned down the pressure.  They slowly but surely warmed up to it.  Bless her little heart, Ellie stood right in the middle and took a direct hit.  She would make the worst face you've ever seen then cry ridiculsouly if you tried to move her.  Eli ran straight though the middle with his eyes closed.  Thank goodness our yard is basically an o
